Rugs carry with them some of the richest histories of antique pieces, and the Antiques Roadshow(TM) Estate-Antique Empire Collection captures these stories in each design. These collectibles are created and inspired by art movements, ancient cultures, and architecture throughout the world.
These rugs are based on French Savonerie designs, found both in architecture and artwork in palaces throughout France during the reign of Louis the 16th. This design is representative of the Savonerie type of motifs, which are derived from the Aubusson style of design. This style consists of a center medallion, with floral motifs in the four corners and an elaborate floral border. Savonerie mimics this style, but is much more elaborate in its detail.
